Lyrics
Verse 1
The shimmer, the shadow, so familiar in the glass,
Though I know it is near me, there’s a wall I can't surpass.
And so I stand with nothing left, no place for me to go,
Unless this wall gives way, and changes how I go.
Chorus
There is another, waiting unseen,
Closer than silence, alive in the dream.
Beyond every question, whose answers are dim,
A Presence is waiting — inviting me to Him.
Verse 2
The Shimmer in the mirror, lingers, drawing near.
He whispers in the silence, but nothing I can hear.
He stops me at the edge, I look but cannot see,
He leads me to the pathway — He wants to set me free.
Chorus
There is another, waiting unseen,
Closer than silence, alive in the dream.
Beyond every question, whose answers are dim,
A Presence is waiting—inviting me to Him.
Bridge
I pray for forgiveness, and something starts to break,
The wall that held me back now trembles in His wake.
His Word becomes lightning—and cracks that wall in two,
The veil that hid His mercy now lets His Light shine through—
I fall to my knees unworthy, and still He draws me near,
The light reveals my failures, but it burns away my fear.
His Spirit brings the thunder, the clouds release their rain,
I am washed in holy waters, He calls me now by name —
Chorus
There is another, waiting unseen,
Closer than silence, alive in the dream.
Beyond every question, whose answers are dim,
A Presence is waiting — inviting me to Him.
Coda
This thought keeps repeating — deep, within my soul.
I know I’m not the only one — I know I’m not alone.
The Spirit has been calling — to the many, and unknown,
Past, present, and future — waiting for all to come —
— — — — — [pause]
Outro
He speaks in a still, small voice, deep within your soul
The One who waits for everyone... is waiting for you... alone.

Shimmer In The Mirror
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” — Romans 3:23 (KJV)
The need for salvation begins with a truth Scripture does not soften: every person has sinned. Yet God has not left humanity without hope. Romans 5:8 declares, “while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” The invitation to come to God rests upon the finished work of Jesus Christ, not upon a person’s ability to break through sin by personal effort.
The song, Shimmer In The Mirror, uses the image of a reflection and an impassable wall to portray a person who senses a need but cannot overcome the separation. Isaiah 59:2 identifies the deeper problem: “your iniquities have separated between you and your God.” The wall is a creative image, but the separation caused by sin is a biblical reality.
The repeated invitation in the chorus speaks of a Presence waiting unseen. The gospel makes clear whom we must approach: Jesus Christ, who said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6). Salvation is not found in pursuing an indistinct spiritual experience. It is found in the Savior revealed in God’s Word.
As the story unfolds, the person becomes aware of sin and the need for mercy. Jesus taught that the Holy Spirit would “reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment” (John 16:8). Conviction is not merely feeling troubled; it is the recognition of our condition before a holy God and our need for Christ.
At the bridge, the wall begins to break as the person prays for forgiveness. The image of lightning dramatizes the power of God’s truth to expose what has been hidden. Hebrews 4:12 calls the Word of God “quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword.” Yet the saving power is not in a dramatic sensation. It is in Christ, whose death and resurrection provide the basis for forgiveness.
Ephesians 2:8–9 leaves no room for earning that forgiveness: “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Repentance and faith turn us from reliance upon ourselves to trust in Jesus Christ. Acts 3:19 calls sinners to “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out.”
The song’s imagery of a veil giving way points toward restored access to God. Scripture explains that access through Christ’s sacrifice, not through our emotional breakthrough. Hebrews 10:19–22 invites believers to draw near through the blood of Jesus. The rain and washing in the lyrics likewise picture cleansing, while 1 John 1:7 identifies its true source: “the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.”
The words “He calls me now by name” express the deeply personal character of the gospel invitation. John 6:37 gives Christ’s assurance: “him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.” Salvation is offered broadly, but each person must respond in faith. The song moves deliberately from one person’s encounter with that invitation to a final appeal addressed to the listener.
At conversion, the believer is not simply forgiven and then left alone. Ephesians 1:13 teaches that those who hear the gospel and believe are “sealed with that holy Spirit of promise.” Romans 8:9 confirms that belonging to Christ and having His Spirit are inseparable. The Spirit’s indwelling begins at conversion; His ongoing work of growth and preparation is the subject explored in the companion song, After The Shimmer.
The still, small voice at the end is poetic language, not a promise that everyone will hear an audible voice or experience conversion in the same way. What Scripture gives every listener is a clear invitation: “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.” (Acts 16:31). The question is not whether we have witnessed a shimmer or heard thunder. It is whether we have placed our trust in Jesus Christ.
The wall we cannot break by our own strength is no barrier to the grace of God in Christ.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, Your Word shows me both the seriousness of sin and the greatness of Your mercy. Thank You for sending Jesus Christ to die for sinners and rise again. Help me recognize my need, turn from trusting in myself, and place my faith in Him alone. Where I have resisted Your truth, grant me a humble and repentant heart. Thank You for Your promise to receive those who come to Christ and for the gift of Your Holy Spirit to all who believe. May Your Word, not my feelings, be the foundation of my assurance. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
