Lyrics
Verse 1
You paused before you turned—
You rejected him, you didn't learn
He waited for you to speak.
Against temptation, you were weak
He knew you were going to fall
He knew the choice was to be your call.
Chorus
He waits to hear you pray, just once—
A word, regret—a wisp of trust.
You thought the world would fill your need,
What is it— you need to believe?
He was crucified for you and bled.
What’s left? The prayer you never said.
Verse 2
He argued not, He only sighed—
He ached as you began to slide.
He waited for you and so loved you
Hoping that you would love Him, too
The choice was yours the whole time—
But your silence—is all He finds.
Chorus
He wants to hear you call, just once—
For help, regret—a wisp of trust.
You thought the world would fill your need,
What is it— you need to believe?
He was crucified for you and bled.
What’s left? The prayer you never said.
Bridge
His Love has been there all along
Since before the day you were born
You’re guarded by one, unseen and strong
Loved by One whose light trans-FORMS.———
Final Chorus
He wants to hear you say it, just once—
A word, regret—a wisp of trust.
You found out the world won't fill your need,
He is here—so you can believe!
He joyfully heard you say it, just once—
I love You Lord Jesus, it's You I trust.
Forgiveness is what I need
That's it—In You I believe!
He was crucified for me and bled.
What’s left? This prayer I said.
I.... Believe.....In.....You!
Outro
You… if you’re hearing this someday—
He's waiting—for you, too— today.
Devotional
Before We Begin
The voice in the song, He Waits For You, might be the still, small voice of a person's own heart—speaking truths that have perhaps been known, resisted, questioned, or forgotten. The “you” is therefore deeply personal. It is the heart speaking inwardly: You knew. You chose. You wandered. And still, He waits.
When We Turn Away
We sometimes recognize the choice before us and still make the wrong one. James describes a person being “drawn away of his own lust, and enticed” (James 1:14), while 1 Corinthians assures us that with temptation God will “also make a way to escape” (1 Corinthians 10:13). When we fail, however, God is not surprised by what we have done. He knows us completely (Psalm 139:1–4), and failure does not mean that He has stopped calling us.
Scripture describes the Lord as “longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). Romans says that “the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance” (Romans 2:4). God's patience is not approval of our wandering. It is an opportunity to turn around.
What Will Satisfy?
Isaiah asks a question that still reaches us today: “Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not?” (Isaiah 55:2). We can spend years asking possessions, accomplishments, relationships, pleasure, or approval to satisfy needs they were never designed to fill.
Jesus offers something different. He told the woman at the well that the water He gives becomes “a well of water springing up into everlasting life” (John 4:14). And we do not have to earn our way to Him. Scripture tells us that “while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). The work of salvation begins not with what we can do for Christ, but with what Christ has already done for us. Our response can begin very simply: “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13).
He Does Not Force the Answer
God calls us to Himself, but Scripture also makes clear that we can resist that call. Jesus grieved over Jerusalem, saying He would have gathered its people to Himself, “and ye would not” (Matthew 23:37). In John 5:40 He said, “ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.” There is both love and choice in those words.
God's patience should not be mistaken for indifference. Hebrews urges us, “To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts” (Hebrews 3:15). Yet Scripture also shows how readily the returning one is received. In Jesus' account of the prodigal son, while the son was “yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran” (Luke 15:20). God calls. We choose whether to answer. And when we turn toward Him, we find mercy waiting.
A Prayer
Lord Jesus, I know there have been times when I have turned away from You. Thank You for Your patience and for loving me even when I have wandered. Help me hear Your voice and answer You today. Forgive me, guide me, and teach me to place my trust in You. Amen.
Share the Invitation
Is there someone in your life who may need to know that it is not too late to turn toward God? You do not need to have all the answers or find the perfect words. You might simply share the song, He Waits For You, along with one thought from Scripture that spoke to you, and then pray for that person. Sometimes sharing the invitation is as simple as letting someone know that the door is still open.
