Verse 1

I awake with anticipation

Not knowing what's ahead

I look out over His creation

And climb myself out of bed.

Chorus

The fields are ripe unto harvest

Mornings come late from the darkness

The earth groans with its longing

The day yearns for eternal dawning

Verse 2

I wonder always at His providence

At the ways He is always right here

There is ample evidence... now

And any time more will appear.

Chorus

The fields are ripe unto harvest

Mornings come late from the darkness

The earth groans with its longing

The day yearns for eternal dawning

Verse 3

We live with hope and expectation

Waiting for today and tomorrow to end

At times without explanation

A longing we can't comprehend.

Chorus

The fields are ripe unto harvest

Mornings come late from the darkness

The earth groans with its longing

The day yearns for eternal dawning

Bridge

He said He would make a place for us

And come back to receive us

He would never ever leave us

He would be waiting to welcome us.

Behold, He cometh with clouds

And every eye shall see Him,

And they also which pierced Him

And all families of the earth

Shall wail because of Him.

Even so, please hurry, Lord. Amen.

Chorus

The fields are ripe unto harvest

Mornings come late from the darkness

The earth groans with its longing

The day yearns for eternal dawning

Outro

Please come soon, Lord Jesus.

Eternal Dawning — Living in the Light of His Coming

Every morning is a beginning. We awaken without knowing precisely what the day will bring. Yet beneath the ordinary rhythm of life, God is accomplishing His purposes, and every passing day brings us nearer to the fulfillment of His promises.

The song, Eternal Dawning, begins with an ordinary morning but gradually lifts our gaze toward the promised return of Jesus Christ.

Romans 8:22 tells us, “For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.” Creation bears the consequences of a fallen world. Believers share in that expectation, “waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body” (Romans 8:23).

There is a longing within the believer that no earthly accomplishment can completely satisfy. We were created for fellowship with God; we know Him now through faith, but have not yet experienced the fullness of His promise.

The longing is real because the promise is real.

Jesus told His disciples, “I go to prepare a place for you” (John 14:2), and promised, “I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also” (John 14:3). He did not merely promise escape from suffering. He promised that His people would be with Him.

Meanwhile, we are not simply waiting for an event. We are living within God’s continuing work. Philippians 1:6 assures us, “he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.” Spiritual growth does not end at salvation. God continues His work through His Word, His Spirit, His correction, and His grace.

Some days we see that work; other days we do not. Yet the assurance rests on His faithfulness, not on our ability to measure our progress.

The One who began the work is the One who will complete it.

In John 4:35, Jesus said, “Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.” While we anticipate His return, people still need the Gospel, encouragement, compassion, and the witness of lives transformed by grace. Our expectation of eternity should give urgency to today.

We are waiting, but we are not idle.

Revelation 1:7 declares, “Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him.” The verse also warns of mourning at His appearing. His coming is the believer’s blessed hope, but also a solemn revelation of His authority and judgment. Both truths belong to Scripture.

Revelation 22:20 records Christ’s promise, “Surely I come quickly,” and the response, “Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” We do not know the day or hour, but we know whose promise sustains us.

Until then, we awaken. We work. We worship. We love. We grow. We share the Gospel. We endure with hope, knowing that the darkness will not have the final word.

The dawn we await is not merely another sunrise. It is the fulfillment of God’s promises, the completion of His work in His people, and the joy of being forever with our Lord.

And while we wait for that eternal dawning, may every ordinary morning find us faithful.

A Moment for Reflection

Am I living today with the expectation that Christ will return? Where am I discouraged because I cannot see God’s progress? Who might need the Gospel or encouragement through me while there is still time?

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the promise of Christ’s return and the hope that reaches beyond this present world. Thank You that the work You have begun in me is not abandoned, even when I cannot see Your hand. Help me to live with purpose, faithfulness, and expectation. Give me compassion for those who do not yet know You and courage to share Your Word. When I grow weary, remind me that Your promises are certain and Your timing perfect. Prepare my heart for the day I see my Savior face to face. Until then, help me make every ordinary morning count for eternity. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. Amen.
